East Sussex League

Welcome

Welcome, This years AGM started with a minutes silence in memory of Chris Birch a former referees secretary, players Ross Christie of Wadhurst Utd, Lea Deal of Northiam 75, Vitu Kalanga of Sandhurst & Steve Smith of Hollington Utd all greatly missed by our football family.
Mr. John Ades Vice President of the Sussex County Football Association presented long service awards to Alan Apps, Kevin Bray & David Mayne officers of the league.

With the new officers settling into their new roles very well in difficult circumstances, which saw the league having to cancel its cup competitions for the second time in recent seasons due to continuous bad weather. Every effort will be made to ensure we get our cup matches played early this season before providing fixtures for the outside cup competitions.

The Officers & Management Committee worked hard on financial matters, achieving an increased grant from the Football Association, which assists in keeping annual subscriptions & fines at amongst the lowest in the County.

The Management Committee met on a monthly basis dealing with, Compliance, Referees, Competitions, Finance & Grounds, where we were greatly assisted by Graham Holmes. During the season Timmy White resigned, we thank him for his contribution, which left three vacancies, fortunately Mick James & Richard Ahsam offered their services, and volunteers for the remaining position would be most welcome.

Our new applicants committee was kept busy with clubs wishing to join or enter additional teams; those successful were Eastbourne Athletic, Guestling Rangers, Hurst F.C, J.C Tackleway III, Nelson Tigers, and Ninfield Utd II. The club formerly known as The Pelham has changed their name to The Wilton.
All these teams are welcome to the East Sussex League where it is intended that they shall enjoy their cup & league fixtures in competitive competition.
With media attention continuing to focus on certain areas of the national game, the East Sussex League again commit to ensuring a sporting attitude by players, club officials and spectators shall prevail and we will continue to support referees to stamp out offensive, abusive and threatening behavior. The League support fully supports the F.I.F.A campaign against racial abuse, there is no place at any level of football for this behavior, and repeated breaches that bring the League into disrepute will be dealt with accordingly.
Finally the League has an excellent web site managed by Paul Hammond who works tirelessly to keep visitors up to date on a daily basis, with fixtures, results & tables, we enjoyed over 10,000 visitors a month during last season, which has assisted in attracting sponsorship, long may it continue. Enjoy season 2007-08
